In New Testament times, the church looked very different than it does today in North America. Most church meetings were home meetings, and included sharing the Word, prayer, fellowship and usually a meal. The church was a family, a household of faith. At City Church, we are rediscovering the priority of community. We can only truly say we love God if we are learning to love our brothers and sisters. But to love each other, we have to know each other; we need to spend time together. Belonging to a small group, or cell, is a great way to build community and put love into practice. We also believe that a healthy small group is a group with an outward focus. Small groups get really exciting when we move beyond just thinking about our own needs and concerns, and become passionate about reaching out to neighbours and friends with the love of Jesus. |
